From Online to Onlife in Camino de Santiago

There is a saying in the “Way of Saint James” (Camino de Santiago):

“A day in the camino is equivalent to a year in real life.”

As Offline grows, the team grows with it, and the last months where we’ve been connecting with people from all over the world, we came accross beautiful souls with great life experiences. As we welcome them to the team, we discover special memories from special travels. We invited Borja to share one of his with us:

“This past summer I was lucky enough to have the time to do the “Way of Saint James” for the second time – and every time it just gets better. You have more experience and you are more open for totally new experiences.

The two times I did the camino, I went by myself. I kind of wanted to discover who I was and who I wanted to become, but instead I discovered something much more important than that. It’s how we really need other human beings to become what we want. Not in an egoistic way, but rather in an altruistic one. Everybody in the camino helps each other and that makes us happy, hence happiness helps you doing everything better. Pilgrims really are super connected and I’m not talking about virtual connection, because most of us don’t even have a phone (or don’t want to use it). I’m talking about soul connection…

And how do we get there? By really being with each other. We have long paths, some of them you walk alone to look inside yourself, but after that we all get to the hostel together, where everyone usually puts on some flip-flops straight away (it’s been a long day with the boots on). We get together and we start sharing with each other the experiences we had in life, looking into each other’s eyes. How many times do you actually talk to your friends about your deepest thoughts or emotions within the big cities? We are too distracted with what we find on Facebook or Twitter and we don’t realize how disconnected we are from nature and from the people we think we are connected with. The people that we see every day. Because connection is not about sharing tweets or posts, is about sharing feelings and love.

The conclusion of the camino for me was that we need each other, we need to help other so

others can help us in return. I know we live in a technological world, but we have to develop our

technology as well as our spirituality – and we are far behind on that. Let’s share more experiences with others, and develop our souls.”

Come meet Borja at the Offline House and hear all about his adventures. He will be with us in June.
