HOW DOES OUR ONLINE TIME AFFECT OUR FREE TIME?

This post is specially directed to all Business owners and freelancers. Why?

Because when there is no 9 to 5 we need to create our own working hours…

One of my biggest struggles over these almost 4 years since I created Offline was how to manage my work/personal time. I am not Offline, but this project has taken over too much time over my Life, leading me to a stage of Burn Out in the end of our first year.

This year I decided to reduce significantly (over 50%!) the time I dedicated to Offline to a very extreme, by choice (because I needed) but not in the most effectively way I have to say. Therefore I started implementing a new strategy of organisation for my work and personal time.

All big entrepreneurs and successful CEO´s have a very organised daily schedule when it comes to their free time, personal development and working hours. Because….let´s not forget one truthful fact mentioned in many successful management books “working a LOT doesn´t mean guaranteed Success”. This one I strictly followed since my burn out 🙂

Along with this and other management tips, managing our ONLINE time is also crucial for our mental health: to do our work effectively without being distracted and spending over-time just scrolling with no fixed intention. Do you know the average person spends 1,5h daily on social media just “scrolling” with no goal? How much do you consciously spend online?…

We all know that TIME is one of our most precious thing in Life, right?

In another words, not to say “Oh…I am sorry, but I haven´t had time for that” is essential that we plan our day, week and month the most effective way. How many times do we say this?…

STOP!

Therefore I am sharing with you some tips that hopefully will also help you, as it´s helping me to succeed in a more balance life-work time.

Organise an overall timetable for your daily routine. Admitting that my day is from 8am till 11 in the evening (15 hours in total) – I decided that my time is organised in the following way:

– I establish 3 hours for my meditation, yoga and spiritual practice– 1,5h in the morning and 1,5h late in the afternoon. This is absolutely essential for me to Believe in myself and be Mind-focused. I have implemented this since almost 3 years now to deal with my anxiety issues, specially just turning the phone on after the morning practice. Not giving up on this one.

– I work on the computer 4 hours a day– 3 after breakfast and 1 before dinner time. Within this working hours I spend 1 hour on social media, 1 hour replying to emails & messages regarding appointments and reservations  and the other hour is dedicated to finances including some admin, invoices and bureaucracies. The remaining 1 hour is dedicated to some video & graphic design work to support the marketing for Offline.

– 1 hour is dedicated to organising activities for the Offline events such as programes, logistics & planning.

–  2 hours are dedicated to reading, online researching/workshops & improving my knowledge – so I keep learning all the time.

– the remaining 5 hours time are dedicated to daily routines such as meals, shopping, laundry, cleaning and obviously some free time. In this time I really avoid Social media apart from replying to a few messages and I have my phone on airplane mode whilst sleeping.

– 10 days Offline a year

– at least 1 day Off a week

Another topic is how do you organise your finances– as much as it´s hard, I had to learn to have a cool relationship with money the hard way- I now call money “Kash” as if it´s a person and I even have a 100€ note in my altar next to the Buddha. Why? Because in the end money is an Energy like anything else in life and I need it to GROW OFFLINE- once and for good.

Do you keep track of all the money you spent and how do you spend it?

Here´s the actual Offline brief Finance plan based on well-known business strategies for successful projects:

60% of the income is to cover fixed costs (such as rents, petrol, salaries, insurances, taxes, monthly subscriptions and so on)

20% for savings account

10% for marketing- any Business needs a marketing strategy of investment to be seen and reach out in message

3% for Donation- For environmental causes, support Spiritual Teachers, causes, crowdfundings or anyone that you wanna help that might be struggling.

When you give, you also receive.

7% for variable costs– there´s always costs that we are not counting on and is good to prevent. Argh! 🙂

Any business is a project that is born, develops, evolves, changes but eventually dies if not “feed” properly. Just like us.

In the end, Offline is a reflection of myself in a material form so I need to take care of it the same way I take care of myself and vice-versa.

Not easy my friends, specially when my mind-set is trying to live in the NOW as much as I can, planning and having a structure is needed for the foundation of any Project.

Just like in any Architecture building.

Much love and Success,

Bárbara
